In the midst of the gown controversy, Cardi B clarifies the record and says that Vogue invited her to the Met Gala

Social media has discussed Cardi B and her Met Gala performance for both positive and negative reasons.

During the star-studded event, the “Bodak Yellow” star came under fire for not remembering the name of her dress designer and instead referring to him as “Asian and everything.” Cardi vehemently refuted accusations that she was racist, saying she was just having a forgetful moment. This also gave rise to the idea that Vogue never sent her an invitation to the Met Gala in the first place. Rather, there was conjecture that Instagram, who sponsored a table, made her request.

Cardi, who has attended the Met Gala every year without fail, dispelled this idea with her video, “Get ready with me for the Met Gala,” which was posted on Vogue’s YouTube page.

Earlier in the day, Cardi was criticized by Vogue Director Gilbert Cheah for not recognizing Chinese designer Sensen Lii by name at the Met.

“For the record and recognition—and without any gratitude to Cardi B—Sensen Lii, a Chinese designer, created her gown. Making the garment took two months. Cheah posted on Instagram, “I think it’s boring and not even on theme, but she chose it and should have remembered his name and not just that he’s ‘Asian.'”

Eventually, she would thank the designer on Twitter, writing, “I have to thank Windowsen by Sensen Lii again!!!” I choose you for this Met Gala because of your incredible talent, and you truly made the evening unforgettable. Sadly, the internet was already breathing down her neck by then.
