Samia wants gas payments to be made through the luku system

President Samia Suluhu Hassan has asked the Ministry of Energy to find innovative Tanzanians in technology and give them the task of making a plan to enable cooking gas users to pay as much as they use, as is done in electricity LUKUs.

Speaking today while launching the National Strategy for clean cooking energy for the year 2024 in Dar es Salaam, President Sami was quoted as saying the following “Government has the responsibility to increase awareness among citizens about clean cooking energy and enact good and enabling policies to achieve the goals of the strategy this, in this our colleagues from the Ministry of Energy will guide us to ensure that clean energy for cooking is reliably available and at an affordable price for the people”

“We expect the private sector, along with increasing investment and increasing access to clean energy for cooking in various parts of the country, to also bring us simple technology that will enable citizens to get clean energy as much as they can, for example paying as much as they use as is done with electricity and water, the prepaid meters”

“And here I want to tell the Minister that one of the environmental exhibitions I have ever visited, I found this technology, there are Tanzanians who have made cylinders in which you use gas as you pay, you take the whole cylinder if you have paid 10 thousand, you will use your 10 thousand gas, when the cylinder runs out, you cut it even if there is gas until you contact and they should pay again and open it for you and use it again. I am asking them to look for it or if they are there to come forward and let us work with them in this area” – President Samia.
