World Cup champion describes his AFCON achievements as “amazing”

Ademola Lookman, a Nigerian international, thought back on the 2023 AFCON finals in Ivory Coast, when he was the finest attacker for the Super Eagles.

The West African powerhouses advanced to the championship game before losing to the tournament’s hosts thanks to the three goals scored by the Atalanta BC star in seven games.

It was Lookman’s first significant competition with Nigeria after he switched from England to the European nation after winning the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup.

Lookman stated on Score Nigeria, “My favorite goal was the second goal against Cameroon; it gave me goosebumps and my parents were watching on.”

When asked, he said, “I would say the Equatorial Guinea game; we played at 2pm; the weather was tough.”

When asked how it felt to be Nigeria’s joint-highest goalscorer in his first-ever AFCON competition, the small player replied, “Very happy, obviously as an attacking player, we always want to help the team by doing that and the team was amazing, everyone helped out.”

“It was something I really, really enjoyed—it was an amazing first tournament with the team.”

Lookman is thrilled to be a part of the Nigerian team that will play in the June 2024 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin.
