Kenya and Somalia reach agreement on defense, education, and political consultations

An agreement to cooperate in the fields of political discussions, education, and defense was signed by Kenya and Somalia on Monday.

In Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who also serves as the cabinet secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, stated that the three bilateral instruments are intended to strengthen bilateral cooperation for the benefit of the peoples of the two nations.

“Our technical officials’ commitment to resolving conflicts through dialogue made this agreement possible,” Mudavadi stated at the third meeting of the Kenya-Somalia joint commission for cooperation (JCC).

In addition, Mudavadi said that Kenya and Somalia have a unique relationship based on their long-standing and robust alliance as well as the fact that they share a similar border.

According to Ahmed Moalin Fiqi, Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, both nations have worked to strengthen their cooperation in the areas of security, capacity building in the health sector by improving the training of police officers and health professionals, and other areas.

He pointed out that the two governments’ and peoples’ shared will to cooperate in order to improve and broaden the scope of their bilateral relations is what fuels their relationship.
