US Soldier Arrested on Theft Charges After Being Detained in Russia

Due to allegations of theft, a US soldier was taken into custody in Russia and will remain there until July.

According to Russia’s official news agency RIA, the Pervomaisky District Court in Vladivostok has ordered the custody of American soldier Gordon Black on charges of stealing.

The court’s press office stated that the soldier will be held until July 2.

The US Army acknowledged on Monday that it has been notified of the soldier’s detention, even though it has not yet publicly identified the individual.

The soldier was allegedly accused of stealing from a woman while stationed in South Korea, according to unnamed sources.

A woman from Vladivostok is said to have been met online by the military, a sergeant stationed in South Korea, according to claims published in the Russian newspaper Sputnik. The soldier allegedly stole 200,000 roubles ($2,196) from her during the time they were living together.
