A Tanzanian hunts for a record on the island of Greenland
Wilfredy Moshi, a resident of Moshi, in the Kilimanjaro region, is going to represent Tanzania in Denmark by participating in a walking and ice-skating competition in the island of Greenland.
Smoke. A young resident of Moshi in the Kilimanjaro region, Wilfredy Moshi, who is going to represent Tanzania in Denmark at the ice-skating competition in Greenland, may be the first Tanzanian and African to arrive on the island.
80% of the island of Greenland, which is the largest in the world and has 56,000 people, is covered by ice and has become a major tourist attraction in the country and in various parts of the world.
In 2012, Moshi, who is also a tourism stakeholder, set a record for being the first Tanzanian to climb Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world with a height of 8,848 meters (29,029 feet).
Saying goodbye to the Tanzanian today April 28, 2024, Kilimanjaro Regional Chief, Nurdin Babu has said that the Government supports him to represent Tanzania and Kilimanjaro Region in Denmark, while asking him to fly the Tanzanian flag well and bring a great victory at home.
“Know that you are going to represent the country… we, the leaders of the regional government, wish you all the best in your journey. We are happy that you are Tanzanian, but you have decided to come here, and you did not rush like others do. We wish you the best because we know you are going to compete, we hope you bring a big victory here at home and when you come back, we will receive you well because our colleague has represented us well,” said Babu.
Speaking about the trip, Moshi said it will take 25 to 30 days to reach the island and that he is going to compete with international teams and he believes he will win and bring home victory and show the world that even Tanzanians have the ability to reach the island.
“I hope to leave for Denmark to join the international team to go ice skating on the island of Greenland where this trip will take 25 to 30 days.
“It is a unique event and not many people have done it, I feel happy and proud to represent my country Tanzania and I will do something unique because not many people and I don’t think there are Africans have done it, so it is a unique event,” he said.
Moshi has said that he has never skied on the ice and that it is his first time to go to those islands, but he believes that the victory is his because he has trained in the United States in the past.
“I am going to show the world that even we Tanzanians can do it, I have come here to the governor to get all the blessings because he is the representative of the President,” said Moshi.
Among other things, he has said that in his tourism activities in Mount Kilimanjaro, he has set a record for climbing the mountain 23 times, so he believes that he will do well where he is going due to the experience he has.
