“I Was Arrested Standing On The Porch With A Black Family,” according to President Joe Biden
When President Joe Biden appeared on “The Howard Stern Show” on Friday, April 26, he said that he had previously “gotten arrested” while attempting to protect Black Americans’ civil rights.
The President has previously discussed this alleged arrest, although it should be highlighted that there is no proof that the incident ever occurred.
On “The Howard Stern Show,” Biden revealed to Stern that they remembered when he was allegedly detained prior to the death of his mother.
He added, “She said, ‘Joey, let me — remember’ — true story, she said — ‘Remember when they were desegregating Lynnfield, the area — suburbia — and I told you — and there was a Black family moving in, and there was — people were down there protesting. “Remember that I warned you not to go down there, and you did? And while you were with a Black family on the porch, you were arrested? And the police brought you back? “Yeah, Mom, I remember that,” I replied.
It should be mentioned that The Washington Post and PolitiFact did not discover any proof supporting the assertion that Biden was arrested during a civil rights demonstration.
The Washington Post claims that in 2017, Biden brought up the purported arrest in a conversation about his late mother. “My mom, God bless her, sat there the entire time. We convinced her to move in with us after my dad passed away, even though she was hesitant to do so,” he remarked.
“Anyway she was sitting there, and I turned to her and said, ‘Honey you haven’t said anything’ and she said, ‘Joey’ — it’s a true story,” he continued. “Let me get this straight, mom. When you were 14 years old, the house in a nearby neighborhood called Graylyn Crest, or Carrcroft, was sold by the real estate guys to a Black couple.’ I answered, ‘Yeah, mom. I replied, “Yes, mom,” to her statement, “Recall when I told you not to go down there, honey, because everybody is protesting and you got arrested standing with the family on the porch.” An actual tale.”
He brought up the matter once more in 2018, saying that his mother had told him, “Joey, remember at 15 years old, and that real estate agent sold a house to the Black couple in Lynnfield.”
“The neighboring, this was in suburban sprawl, the neighboring neighborhood,” Biden said. His mother then allegedly stated, “I told you not to go down there because of the protests, and you went down, and you got arrested because you were standing on the porch with the Black couple?”
I replied, ‘Yes, ma’am. Regarding the incident at hand, Biden continued, “I remember that.”
There are several minor variations even though these stories are all similar. For instance, Biden claims that the demonstration happened in Carrcroft in one report but argues that it happened in Lynnfield, Delaware, in another.
Regarding the arrest itself, there is still more inconsistency. Biden says he was detained for standing on the porch with the Black couple, according to some reports. In others, he claims that after waiting on the porch, the cops brought him home.
In addition, Biden stated during his 2020 presidential campaign that he was “arrested” while a senator from the United States for attempting to see Nelson Mandela in prison.
“On this day, thirty years ago, Nelson Mandela walked out of prison and entered into discussions about apartheid,” stated Biden in February 2020. It was a wonderful honor for me to meet him. While attempting to see our U.N. ambassador on Robbens Island, I had the great privilege of being detained with him in the streets of Soweto.
“[Mandela] came to Washington and came to my office after he got free and became president,” he continued. “I would like to express my gratitude,” he added, throwing his arms around me. “Mr. President, what are you thanking me for?” I asked. “You tried to see me,” he remarked. You were arrested for attempting to see me.
CNN claims that no proof of this arrest was ever located. Later, Biden told CNN that he had not meant to say “arrested,” but rather that he had been “stopped” in South Africa.
