Macron’s May visit to Germany was centered on EU relations

According to official sources, French President Emmanuel Macron will visit Germany in May and spend longer than expected with Chancellor Olaf Scholz as a demonstration of their desire to strengthen EU ties. APA provides this information, citing Reuters.

The sources told Reuters on Saturday that Macron may make a second trip to Germany in June after his already confirmed state visit from May 26–28.

This may indicate that despite rumors of intense disagreement between the two leaders, ties between France and Germany are still strong.

While both leaders support Ukraine in its fight against Russia, their strategies for doing so are different, with Germany being more circumspect when it comes to deploying troops or weapons.

Macron and Scholz expressed their desire to work together to establish an EU capital markets union and cut single market red tape during last week’s summit.

According to the sources, Macron will remain longer than expected because of a new Franco-German ministerial conference that is scheduled for Meseberg, north of Berlin, at the end of May.
