Why Davido didn’t act on K24 TV’s hoax article at first and what made him act

Davido discusses why he ultimately decided to take action after first choosing to disregard K24 TV’s April Fools’ joke.

The American radio station Shade 45 had an insightful conversation with Nigerian Afrobeats artist Davido on Sway in the Morning. In it, he revealed the reasons behind his legal action against a Kenyan media outlet.

A deceptive April Fools’ joke that falsely claimed Davido had been detained for drug possession prompted him to file a lawsuit against Mediamax’s K24 TV. Davido provided honest insights into the pressures he faced on both a personal and professional level.

At first, Davido was going to ignore the situation, thinking it was simply another April Fools’ joke.

But when his father called in alarm, the joke—which said he was arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport with drugs on his private jet—quickly turned into a more serious problem.

“My father called and said, ‘Where are you?’ Davido told Sway, “I’m like, I’m in Nigeria, I’m home.”

The depth of his father’s worry caused him to reconsider his carefree demeanor.

Understanding the wider ramifications of the circumstance, Davido emphasized the possible harm that these allegations could do to his reputation and his ability to travel abroad.

“And at first, I was like nah I’m not gonna report it, just let it go its April Fools and my dad was like no because you can fly to any country now and then they bring 20 police to check you,” said Davido.

He was compelled by this risk to take legal action in order to preserve his reputation and stop such problems in the future.

“I’m taking legal action because it might just go the wrong way if we just don’t,” he said.

Davido, via his attorney, is demanding.
