The manager of AFC Leopards stands up for Levis Opiyo, saying that their loss to Gor Mahia was not caused by Howler

Head coach of AFC Leopards Tomas Trucha, who was supervising his first derby, has defended goalie Levis Opiyo, whom Ingwe supporters held accountable for the error that resulted in the goal against Gor Mahia on Sunday.

To the pleasure of the K’Ogalo supporters, former Ingwe player Austin Odhiambo scored the game’s winning goal by taking advantage of IOpiyo’s mistake, which was caused by the forward-moving striker Benson Omalla.

It was the kind of game where chances (if used properly) could make the difference, and missing our chances did not help us either. As a team, we should have done better with the number of chances we created. “Levis (Opiyo) is not the reason we lost,” Trucha told reporters after the game. “He may have made the mistake, but I solely cannot blame him for the defeat.”

Trucha continued, “Given our caliber, we ought to have done more. I want to apologize to the fans for the loss; they came in big numbers expecting us to win, but we didn’t.”

Coach Jonathan McKinstry of Gor Mahia acknowledged that the victory has raised their prospects of capturing a record 21st league championship. McKinstry stated, “We can now start smelling the title after taking a step forward.”

“We need to keep winning to stay on course. The most important thing is to keep picking up points. We know what our goals are, so we’ll keep pushing and see where we end up at the end of the season. Police are trying to keep the pace after their victory against Sofapaka.”

“We know it will not be easy, we are now playing against teams that are fighting against relegation and also mid-table teams that are very difficult to play against at this stage of the campaign because they have nothing to lose,” the Northern Irish tactician said when asked about his plans for the remaining games.

“Playing against teams like Murang’a Seal, who play excellent football and enjoy the game, can be challenging. We need to remain focused and win our games, and I’m sure that 69 points can win you the league.”

After the loss, Ingwe’s standing was down to eighth with 38 points from nine victories, eleven draws, and seven losses.
