UEFA punished Barcelona for their supporters’ Nazi salutes and monkey antics during the PSG match

NYON, SUISSE — UEFA fined Barcelona $26,600 on Thursday for the Nazi salutes and monkey gestures made by supporters during last week’s Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain.

The European Union’s soccer governing body, UEFA, announced the confirmed accusation of “racist behavior” in response to pictures that went viral on April 10 showing misbehavior by certain fans at Parc des Princes.

Additionally, UEFA postponed a one-game ban on selling tickets to Barcelona supporters for a Champions League away game until after the conclusion of a one-year probationary term.

Barcelona was also mandated to pay $7,500 in additional fines and to reimburse PSG for any fan-caused seat damage.

Barcelona advanced to the quarterfinals by winning the first leg 3-2 in Paris, but lost the second leg 4-1 at home, and was eliminated on Tuesday.

FIFA, the global governing body for soccer, will begin a fresh campaign against racism during its annual congress meeting in Bangkok, Thailand, next month.
