The Indiana Fever selected Caitlin Clark first overall in the WNBA draft, as was predicted

The Indiana Fever choose Caitlin Clark with the first overall choice in Monday night’s WNBA draft.

The former Iowa standout broke numerous records throughout her collegiate career, making her a household name among basketball fans. Now, she and Aliyah Boston, the top choice from the previous season, will attempt to revitalize the Indiana franchise. Since she declared on February 29 that she would turn pro, it had been inevitable that Fever would take Clark.

Clark’s trademark logo shots and passing prowess have helped attract millions of fans to the women’s game. In the national championship game, which Iowa lost to undefeated South Carolina, a record 18.9 million viewers turned in, mostly thanks to the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer. The previous year, the Hawkeyes finished second nationally behind LSU.

A few months ago, the draft was held at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in front of 1,000 spectators, all of whom purchased their tickets in less than 15 minutes after they went on sale.

The second pick, which the Los Angeles Sparks held along with the No. 4 pick, was truly where the mystery started.

Cameron Brink of Stanford, Rickea Jackson of Tennessee, and Kamilla Cardoso of South Carolina have all been mentioned as potential candidates to be the second player off the board. Before the Sparks were scheduled to return to action, Chicago had the third pick.
