Flash floods cause 15,000 displaced people and 13 fatalities as they ravage Kenya

The ongoing torrential rains in Kenya are causing serious flooding, resulting in thousands of displaced people and 13 fatalities.

According to the United Nations, thousands of people have been displaced and lives have been lost as a result of severe rainfall in several parts of Kenya.

According to the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the nation’s severe rains and subsequent flash floods have caused about 20,000 people to be affected, 15,000 people to be relocated, and 13 people to have killed.

Kenya, an East African nation, has suffered a great deal of loss due to floods in previous rainy seasons, especially in places around lakes and downstream of large rivers.

Five main roads were affected by significant floods, according to the Kenya Red Cross Society. One of those routes is the Garissa Road in northern Kenya, where on Tuesday a bus carrying fifty-one passengers washed away. Thankfully, every passenger was brought to safety.

Due to dam breaches upstream, the nation’s disaster management organization has issued flood advisories for inhabitants in the Tana River, Lamu, and Garissa counties, which are downstream of the Tana River. To safeguard their safety, residents have been encouraged to move to higher ground.

Nine of Kenya’s 47 counties have currently reported flooding, underscoring the pervasive effects of the continuous, heavy rainfall.
