The presidential candidate of Ghana’s ruling party declares that they are against same-sex relationships

Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president of Ghana and a presidential candidate, has stated that he is against homosexuality.

During the final Ramadan prayers, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia of Ghana’s ruling party announced his opposition to homosexuality. He declared his opposition to “homosexuality as a practice.”

If elected in December, he promised to stick to Ghana’s cultural and societal traditions, which strongly condemn homosexuality.

He stated, “It is significant to remember that homosexuality is frowned upon in Ghana due to cultural, societal, and ethical norms. This practice is condemned by all of Ghana’s major religious traditions, and as president, I will continue to fight it.

In January, John Dramani Mahama, the former president, expressed similar opinions.

Many in the culturally conservative West African nation, where homosexual intercourse is already illegal by up to three years in prison and LGBT people are routinely harassed and abused, will find their ideals appealing.

President Nana Akufo-Addo is under pressure to approve a bill that further suppresses LGBT rights into law, and this is evident in Bawumia’s remarks.
