Inter Miami loses 3-1 to Monterrey and is eliminated from the Champions Cup

It was not a good start for Lionel Messi’s first official trip to Mexico.

In the second leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinals, which is the Concacaf version of the Champions League, Monterrey defeated Inter Miami 3-1 on Wednesday night. Three goals each from Jesús Gallardo, Germán Berterame, and Brandon Vazquez were sufficient to eliminate Miami 5–2 overall.

In the 85th minute, Diego Gómez scored the lone goal for Miami. Messi had just one opportunity in the first half of the game despite starting it.

“As a coach, I’m happy to eliminate a great team. Gerardo [Martino] and Leo [Messi] are a great coach and player who are recognized worldwide,” Fernando Ortiz, the coach of Monterrey, stated. “We have the satisfaction to win the series.”
