After being knocked out in just 21 seconds, a transgender boxer issues a defiant statement

Before facing Reyes at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California, in 2018, Manuel had been the first transgender man to box professionally. He was undefeated at 3-0. Despite being viewed as the underdog, Reyes had won four of his previous six fights and astonished Manuel by knocking him out in just 21 seconds.

Manuel is still the only transgender boxer to compete professionally, and he has vowed to carry on with his boxing career despite the early setback. Manuel posted on Instagram, saying, “I’m not one to hide my face no matter the outcome….I lost last night.” “I had excellent sparring, worked really hard, and spared no expense. However, things don’t always go your way.

Everybody who enters the ring is taking a risk. It’s the most sad and thrilling aspect of boxing. My health is the most crucial factor. I must admit that I am really disappointed and that my ego has been hurt.

But I’m not going to hang my head in shame. I’ve never been one to take things slowly, and occasionally that has cost me. And I’ve learned time and time again from life that failing does not define me. I express my gratitude to all those who have supported me and, hopefully, will continue to do so.”
