Simba and Yanga Have Scheduled the Crunch Crash for April 20

The crucial Mainland Premier League match between Young Africans and Tanzania’s dominant team Simba SC has been rescheduled.

Due to a busy schedule from participating in the CAF Champions League, the two Dar es Salaam clubs have rescheduled their derby, which was originally scheduled to take place this next weekend.

This past weekend, both teams were eliminated from the continental competition at the quarterfinal round. Simba lost to Al Ahly of Egypt 2-0 (3-0 overall), while Yanga was defeated by Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa on penalties following a goalless draw over two legs.

On Saturday, April 20, at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, the teams will square off for their 112th meeting since 1965. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. Eastern African time.

This is a crucial game for Simba because, in addition to trying to reclaim the top spot in the standings (they are currently in third place, seven points behind leaders Yanga and one game behind), they also want to exact revenge on their opponents for the crushing 5-1 loss they suffered in their previous meeting in November 2023. Additionally, it was Simba’s new coach Abdelhak Benchika’s debut Kariakoo derby.

Fans can be reassured by Tanzanian Premier League official Karim Boimanda that the league is making every effort to provide an amazing entertainment.

The Citizen quotes him as saying, “The body will continue to give its updates as the day draws near. The encounter preparations have already started.”
