Mufti announces the new moon, Idd Al-Fitr tomorrow

Dar es Salaam: The Mufti of Tanzania, Abubakar Zuberi today, Tuesday April 9, 2024 has announced the arrival of the moon and thus the Idd el Fitri holiday will be tomorrow, Wednesday April 10.

Speaking to the media, Sheikh Mkuu Zuberi said the moon has visited various places including Zanzibar.

The waning of the moon ends the fasting of the holy month of Ramadan.

“My fellow Muslims, today April 9, 2024, I have received information about the arrival of the moon from Kenya and also from here at home. Zanzibar in the Pemba area, according to the office of the Mufti of Zanzibar has informed us that the month has been confirmed and they have confirmed it, so I, as the Mufti of Tanzania, confirm the month and information, so tomorrow April 10, 2024 will be Idd el Fitri. I wish them a happy Idd,” he said.

“And according to our procedure, the Idd will be prayed here at the headquarters (of Bakwata, Kinondoni) and in the evening there will be an Idd council at the Mwalimu Nyerere International Conference Hall (JNICC),” he said.

The board of directors and management of Mwananchi Communications Ltd wishes all Muslims and Tanzanians the best of Idd el Fitri.

The mufti of Zanzibar, through a statement to the public that he issued today, has noted that there will be a holiday tomorrow.

“The Office of the Grand Mufti of Zanzibar informs all the Muslims of Zanzibar that today the moon has waned, so tomorrow, Wednesday, April 10, 2024, is the same as the 1st month of Shawwal (key Mosi),” said part of the statement.
