Jonathan Majors is not going to jail after being sentenced to a domestic violence program for assault

After Jonathan Majors was found guilty of assault and harassment last March for attacking his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari in the back of a car, the judge sentenced him to a domestic violence intervention program.

Majors must complete 52 weeks of in-person domestic abuse treatment in Los Angeles, where he currently resides, according to information provided to USA TODAY on Monday by a Manhattan District Attorney’s office spokesperson. For the assault conviction, he had initially been sentenced to up to a year in prison.

Jabbari was also granted protection by an order made by Judge Michael Gaffey. Majors’ conditional discharge includes the requirement that he maintain his current therapy and abstain from any actions that could lead to an arrest.

“He could face up to 364 days in jail on the misdemeanor,” according to the D.A.’s office, if he does not comply. September 13th is his scheduled first compliance date.

Grace is rather happy with the punishment she received today. Her lawyer Brittany Henderson said in a statement to USA TODAY Monday that she is confident 52 weeks of in-person domestic violence programming would act as a deterrence to future conduct by Mr. Majors. “She is incredibly grateful to the Sanctuary for Families in New York and Women’s Aid in the United Kingdom for their unwavering support and guidance throughout this very difficult criminal process.”
