ES Tunis & TP Mazembe Make It To The CAFCL Semis

After their respective triumphs over ASEC Mimosas and Petro de Luanda, TP Mazembe and Esperance Tunis advanced to the next round of the CAF Champions League semi-finals, which concluded on Saturday night.

On Saturday night, Petro de Luanda welcomed TP Mazembe to the Estadio 11 de Novembro, following a scoreless draw in their first leg match. The Angolan team was led by Jonathan Toro in the 29th minute, but Philippe Kinzumbi of TP Mazembe tied the score in the 82nd, sending them reeling. Then, in a stunning turn of events, Joel Beya scored the winner deep into stoppage time, breaking the hearts of Petro de Luanda.

Then, in a thrilling penalty shootout at Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny, Tunisian team Esperance defeated Ivorian powerhouse ASEC (0-0 on aggregate) 4-2 to guarantee their place in the tournament’s semifinals.

Amanallah Memmiche, the goalie for Esperance, emerged victorious for his team during the penalty shootout, stopping the second and third attempts by Christian Koffi and Salifou Diarrassouba.

TP Mazembe’s next CAFCL matchup is with Al Ahly, while ES Tunis will now play Mamelodi Sundowns in the semifinals.
