Supporters want Cameroon’s four-decade President Paul Biya, 91, to run for another term
Supporters are advising the world’s aged leader, 91-year-old Cameroonian President Paul Biya, to run for office in the 2025 presidential election, theoretically extending his more than four-decade rule.
They insist Biya is the only one who can preserve peace and growth to the country, but the opposition tells Biya should exit office after ruling Cameroon for decades.
Hundreds of people chanted in Cameroon’s capital Yaoundé on Sunday, screaming for Biya to accept the nomination of the Cameroon Peoples Democratic Movement (CPDM party) in the 2025 presidential election.
Biya formed the CPDM on March 24, 1985, three years after his predecessor, Cameroon’s first president Ahmadou Ahidjo stepped down due to the illness and gave power to Paul Biya.
