Niger Terminates Military Co-operation Agreement With US, Junta Spokesperson Says

The United States rushed on Sunday to consider the future of its counterterrorism strategies in the Sahel after Niger’s junta said it was terminating its long-term military cooperation with Washington.

The outcome follows a visit by U.S. officials this week which was escorted by Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Molly Phee and consisted of General Michael Langley, commander of the U.S. Africa Command.

Abdramane, speaking on television in the West African nation, said the U.S. delegation did not follow diplomatic procedure, and that Niger was not notified about the structure of the delegation, the date of its arrival or the agenda.
