Tanzania projects to construct road throughout Serengeti

The Tanzanian government is asking for the permission of UNESCO to renovate roads inside Serengeti National Park in the north after its formerly proposal to build a tarmac road throughout the park hit a problem.

The government had prearranged, between 2005 and 2012, to build a 280-miles tarmac highway to connect Arusha in northern Tanzania towards Musoma on the shores of Lake Victoria but canceled the plan after a civil suit was stuck by animal welfare groups conflicting the road across the Serengeti.

Government Representative Mobhare Matinyi stated in Dodoma on March 10 that the government had prepared a technical detail for proposal to UNESCO, requesting authorization to upgrade into tarmac and concrete pathways, the roads inside the park.

“Our experts have already drafted a proposal, and we are only awaiting approval from the UNESCO,” Matinyi spoke.
