Senegal’s government sets delayed presidential elections for March 24

Senegalese President Macky Sall has said postponed presidential elections will be held on 24 March after the nation’s higher court found it would be unconstitutional to hold the vote after his mandate expires on 2 April. Surprisingly, however, the Constitutional Council rejected the government by choosing 31 March as the date.

Nineteen contestants are registered to race in the election, according to the Constitutional Council.
