Ethiopia: The government denied reports that its officers killed Amhara citizens

The Ethiopian government has denied allegations that its soldiers killed many civilians last month in the troubled region of Amhara. This time the Western nations are calling for an independent investigation into the killings which broke out last year when the government took action to dissolve the regional forces and integrate them into the national army, arbitrarily and rape.

The government’s statement comes a few days after the country’s independent human rights commission claimed that government soldiers killed more than 45 civilians in the state, while other organizations claimed it was more than 80.

Wednesday this week, Britain called for an investigation into the events in Merawi, a day after the European Union called for an investigation and talks to resolve the Amhara conflict and the administration of Addis Abab, since its militant group was disbanded, Amhara currently remains under a state of emergency.
