U.S. SECRETARY OF STATE – AFRICA VISIT

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken completed his four-nation Africa tour. While in Angola on January 26, the Secretary focused on the Lobito Corridor, where he mentioned the Biden-Harris administration is deeply investing. Other countries he visited were Cabo Verde, Cote d’Ivoire, and Nigeria, was dominated by security worries, mostly in the Sahel and coastal West Africa.

Following talks with Angolan President Joao Lourenco, he said they chatted “solid methods” to achieve “a permanent peace” in the DRC’s controversy. While in Abuja, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu said, “the United States is determined to be and remain a strong security partner for Nigeria.”

He attended a soccer match at the African Cup of Nations tournament while meeting with President Alassane Ouattara in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken declared $45 million in new funding to improve regional efforts to promote stability and meet regional dangers.
