A doctor who allegedly gave drugs to Matthew Perry in exchange for his guilty plea
Court papers say that one of the doctors who is suspected of giving ketamine to Matthew Perry has decided to plead guilty.
Police in the federal government said in a statement that Dr. Salvador Plasencia, from Santa Monica, California, is likely to admit guilt to four counts of selling ketamine.
He might get 40 years in jail and a $2 million fine at the most.
On October 28, 2023, the actor who played Chandler Bing on the US show Friends was found dead at his home in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles. He was 54 years old.
The autopsy report from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office says Perry drowned and then died from the “acute effects” of ketamine.
The 43-year-old Dr. Plasencia filed a plea deal on Monday, making him the fourth person to admit guilt in connection with the death of the star.
In August, he was going to be tried.
The office of the US Attorney for the Central District of California said that the doctor would likely make his plea in the next few weeks.
The plea agreement says that Dr. Plasencia worked with Dr. Mark Chavez (who pleaded guilty in October to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine) and sold Kenneth Iwamasa, the actor’s personal assistant, “twenty 5ml vials of ketamine, less than a full package of ketamine lozenges, and syringes” from September 30, 2023, to October 12, 2023.
In his plea deal, Chavez said that he gave Plasencia ketamine that wasn’t on the market so that Matthew could use it.
Iwamasa pleaded guilty on August 7 to one count of planning to kill people by distributing ketamine.
The sentence for Chavez is set for September, and the sentence for Iwamasa is set for November.
It was made clear to E! News in August by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) that Plasencia and Chavez had given up their right to recommend and approve the use of a drug or treatment.
Before they were arraigned, US Attorney Martin Estrada said this about the two: “These defendants cared more about making money off of Mr. Perry than about his health.”
Matthew Perry’s path started with dishonest doctors who used their power to take advantage of him because they saw him as a way to make money. He then went to street dealers who gave him ketamine in vials that weren’t marked.
