Kamarou wins his first UFC title since 2021 after defeating Buckley
“The Nightmare in Nigeria,” Kamaru Usman’s first UFC victory since 2021 came on the morning of Sunday, June 15, 2025, when he defeated Joaquin Buckley in the welterweight main event of a Fight Night at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
Usman won by unanimous decision over five rounds in which his wrestling took center stage and created the conditions for victory (49-46 49-46 48-47).
Usman gradually become more adept at avoiding Buckley’s dangerous attacks and determining when to drive in for takedowns.
After the fight began, it became clear that Buckley couldn’t match his opponent’s technical prowess off the feet.
Usman was successful in taking down the opponent in the first four rounds. Each time, Buckley was unable to stand again.
Even though there was never any threat of the bout ending, Usman worked hard enough to earn a sizable point edge.
It’s pleasant. After winning his first fight since losing the welterweight title to Leon Edwards in August 2022, Usman remarked, “It’s been a while.”
“I had to get rid of that prick.” I’m confident that I can still perform at my best. You must use the experience and execute the skills. I feel fine.
Rose Namajunas defeated Miranda Maverick by unanimous decision in a women’s flyweight co-main event; Edmen Shahbazyan and Mansur Abdul-Malik both defeated Andre Petroski and Cody Brundage in the middleweight division; Raoni Barcelos defeated Cody Garbrandt in a bantamweight fight; and Alonzo Menifield defeated Oumar Sy in a light heavyweight opener.
The UFC will return the following weekend on Saturday, 21st, with a Fight Night in Baku Crystal Hall in Azerbaijan.
Former Light Heavyweight Championship contenders Khalil Rountree Jr. and Jamahal Hill will square off in the main event.
