Trump warns Elon Musk that supporting Democrats will have “serious consequences”
Elon Musk was told by Donald Trump that if he donates to Democrats who are running against Republicans who support the GOP’s budget bill, he will suffer “very serious consequences.”
In a phone interview with NBC News on Saturday, Trump stated, “If he does, he’ll have to pay the consequences for that,” but he did not elaborate on what those may be.
Trump stated unequivocally that he had given up on making things better. When asked if he wanted to mend the relationship, he said, “No.” When asked whether their relationship was formally severing, he responded, “I would assume so, yeah.”
A contentious social media exchange was followed by the fallout. In a since-deleted post, Musk called for Trump’s impeachment and attacked his tariffs and budget. “The easiest way to save money…is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts,” Trump retorted, implying that SpaceX contracts will be terminated.
Trump claims he isn’t focused on retaliation, even though Musk provided financial support in 2024 and played an early role in the government. “I haven’t thought about it,” he stated.
What about the Republican budget? Trump thinks it’s more powerful than before. He attributed the attention-grabbing effect of Musk’s criticism to the Republican Party’s unprecedented unity.
One thing is certain, though: Trump will not be speaking with Musk anytime soon. He remarked, “I’m too busy doing other things.”
