David Beckham will be knighted at last

The former England footballer turned 50 in May, and it was announced on Thursday that he will be officially named “Sir” in the King’s Birthday Honors list the following week.

With Brooklyn, 26, Romeo, 22, Cruz, 20, and 13-year-old Harper Seven, David has been married to former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham since 1999. According to The Sun, she will be referred to as Lady Victoria Beckham after her husband is knighted.

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and the late Sir Bobby Charlton are among the notable athletes who have already been honored, and David will join their ranks.

David “narrowly missed out” on being knighted in 2024, according to the outlet, and former England manager Gareth Southgate was given the honor instead.

For his services to football, the late Queen Elizabeth awarded him an OBE in 2003.

The Honours Committee will have taken into account the former Premier League player’s extensive record of philanthropic activity before granting him the honour.

“I’m thrilled to be working with The King’s Foundation and to have the opportunity to help raise awareness of the charity’s work,” he stated at the time.

My goal has always been to assist young people broaden their perspectives, and I’m especially excited to support the Foundation’s educational initiatives and its work to give young people more access to nature.

David acknowledged that his appointment as an ambassador for The King’s Foundation, which teaches and exemplifies the ideals of traditional urban design and construction, was a “inspiring” experience for him last year.

He stated: “I’ve grown to love the countryside and am personally trying to learn more about rural skills, which are so important to the Foundation’s work.”

I recently visited Highgrove Gardens, and hearing from The King about the work of His Majesty’s Foundation and comparing beekeeping advice was encouraging.

Before that, he was awarded a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador over twenty years ago and worked with the Chelsea Pensioners during the COVID-19 lockdowns.
