Sundowns’ timetable causes a delay in the PSL prizes

The South African professional football league, the Premier Soccer League (PSL), has announced that it has postponed its annual awards presentation.

In a statement posted on the PSL website, the administrator explained the delay by pointing to Mamelodi Sundowns’ involvement in the FIFA Club World Cup and the CAF Champions League final.

At Loftus Versfeld, Sundowns was held to a 1-1 draw by Pyramids FC of Egypt in the first leg of the CAF Champions League final on Saturday. The second leg is scheduled for Sunday at Cairo’s 30 June Stadium.

Starting on June 14 and ending on July 13, the FIFA Club World Cup will take place. In group F, Sundowns will play Ulsan HD, Dortmund, and Fluminense.

According to the announcement, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Awards Ceremony has in the past been conducted in June.

Nevertheless, the League has decided to postpone this season’s PSL Awards Ceremony because Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club will be competing in both the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and the 2024–25 CAF Champions League Final.

As Mamelodi Sundowns represent South African football in these esteemed events, the PSL, its Member Clubs, and all other professional football stakeholders nationwide are united in their support for them, the statement reads.

The PSL said it would notify everyone “in due course” and has not yet disclosed a new date for the awards event.
