Stellies’ lineup has been “beef up” with two new members

Steve Barker, the head coach of Stellenbosch FC, has announced the addition of two players to strengthen his team for the next campaign.

Barker affirmed that Motsepe Foundation Championship (MFC) top scorer Muzomuhle Khanyi and Amajita defender and U20 AFCON champion Siviwe Nkwali would play for Stellenbosch the next season.

Nkwali participated in nine MFC games for Cape Town Spurs this season before helping Amajita win the U20 AFCON and won man of the match in their match against Tanzania.

Khanyi won the league’s Golden Boot after scoring 18 goals for the Hungry Lions in the MFC. The 26-year-old will have the chance to advance from the second division in South Africa to the continental arena.

“As you may have noticed from the news lately, we are a proactive team. We have signed in January with Muzi [Muziwomuhle Khanyi] from the Hungry Lions and [Siviwe] Nkwali from the Cape Town Spurs. Wherever we believe it is necessary, we are looking to strengthen,” Barker said.

“There is no doubt that we are working behind the scenes. Before you can make one or two of your final decisions, these things can occasionally take a little while for one or two things to happen,” he said.

After a goalless draw with Cape Town City on Saturday, Stellies guaranteed their spot in the CAF Confederations Cup for the second consecutive season in their last Betway Premiership match. In their first appearance in the competition, the Maroons surpassed all expectations and advanced to the semi-finals before losing to Simba S.C. of Tanzania.

Stellenbosch will undoubtedly continue to be busy in the transfer window as they want to contend for trophies across five leagues next season due to the competition’s expectations, which include a demanding schedule.
