Former Congolese President Kabila denounces the populism and deceit of the “demagogue” Tshisekedi regime
Joseph Kabila, the former president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, denounced Friday, May 23, the populism, lies, and haughtiness of President Felix Tshisekedi’s administration, as well as the “discrimination and stigmatization of certain sections of our people, the institutionalization of tribalism and nepotism,” hate speech, and impunity that have shattered national unity and left the nation vulnerable.
Speaking from an undisclosed location, Kabila specifically criticized his nation’s legal system just one day after the Kinshasa Senate approved a resolution depriving him of immunity following accusations of treason and war crimes against him by the nation’s military top court. Kabila, a senator for life, is charged with aiding the AFC/M23 rebels, who hold large areas of eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, including the provincial capitals of North and South Kivu.
All of the former president’s moveable and immovable assets were seized by the Congolese government in April after it “ordered” legal action against him.
“As for the justice system… it has completely abdicated its responsibilities, allowing itself to be openly exploited for political ends,” Kabila stated in a speech on Friday night, adding that the current dictatorship in his country has turned the legal system into a tool of oppression that is “desperately trying to survive against the current of history.”
He claimed that the parliament had turned into the “rubber stamp for the will of a single person.”
Among other things, he restated his demand that all foreign forces leave the nation’s land right away.
Congo’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, according to Kabila, cannot be compromised.
“As a soldier, I swore to defend my country to the supreme sacrifice … I remain more faithful than ever to this oath,” he stated.
Kabila also attacked Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi’s proposal to amend the constitution, which would eliminate term restrictions and allow him to run for a third term.
