Amorim proposes to step down if the Man United board wants a new manager

Following Manchester United’s disastrous Europa League loss to Tottenham Hotspur, manager Ruben Amorim stated that he was certain he was still the best candidate for the position, but he would resign without pay if the club’s board thought otherwise.

With one game left in a terrible season that has them mired in 16th place in the Premier League, Amorim and his team had hoped to salvage something.

Instead, Brennan Johnson scored a goal in the first half of a 1-0 victory that guaranteed Spurs a Champions League berth the next season, excluding United from all European competition.

Amorim told reporters, “I am not going to be here defending myself right now; that is not my style.” “I find it quite difficult, thus I am unable to perform it.

So I have nothing to show the audience and tell them, ‘I’m going to get better because of this,’ but I won’t do nothing.

“There is a small amount of faith at this time. We’ll see. I am always available, and if the board and the supporters think I am not the proper person, I will leave the following day without discussing pay.”

It is expensive to miss out on the Champions League; according to co-owner Jim Ratcliffe, qualifying would bring in between 80 and 100 million pounds ($107 and $134 million) in matchday, broadcast, and advertising revenue.

“It is tough for a club like us not to be in the Champions League but now we have to deal with that with a different plan, even with the market,” Amorim stated. However, that means we have more time to work and think during the week, which will help us perform better in the Premier League. We’ll be concentrating on this.

“I am aware that the upcoming season will be difficult, since we lost to an English team, and that the supporters’ pressure will be minimal. But I’m incredibly confident because I promise that I won’t give up or disappear.”

On Wednesday, United played more like a side scared of losing than one intent on winning, especially in the first half when Spurs’ goal was the result of poor defending.

Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho, and Luke Shaw all made outstanding stops as United improved in the second half and had a chance to tie the score in the closing seconds.

“I always told you folks the truth. Even though we weren’t flawless today, we still outperformed the opposition,” Amorim remarked. “With the center defenders wide, crosses, and going inside the box, we tried everything in the second half. I don’t believe it was the right day.

Since the Portuguese took over for Erik ten Hag following the former manager’s dismissal in late October, there have been concerns over whether United has regressed.

Amorim stated, “I don’t agree (that we are going backwards),” Although we’ve had some negative outcomes, I believe we’ve made progress in several areas. In more games where we failed to score, we were competitive.

“I am aware that I am a young man. However, I am also aware that the game and this news conference would have been very different if we had scored one of the goals we had in the second half.”
