The Sudanese Army asserts complete control over Khartoum State while the RSF conflict continues
The RSF has reportedly been completely driven out of Khartoum state by the Sudanese army, which is a significant development in the continuing struggle.
The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have been driven out of Khartoum state, according to the Sudanese army, which says this is a major turning point in its two-year conflict with the RSF.
In a statement released by the state-run Sudan News Agency, the army declared that there were no insurgents left in Khartoum State. Nearly two months have passed since military forces defeated their adversaries and retook central Khartoum, including the vital presidential palace.
Conflicts broke out early Tuesday in the Khartoum state city of Omdurman in spite of the announcement, with the military initiating what it called a “large-scale offensive,” according to AFP. The army’s most recent allegations have not yet received a reaction from the RSF.
Officials were forced to move to Port Sudan in the east last year after military leadership abandoned Khartoum, which was formerly the epicenter of Sudan’s political and administrative life, as the RSF advanced. The eastern city, which was once thought to be a reasonably safe refuge, is now more vulnerable.
Drone assaults earlier this month damaged vital infrastructure in Port Sudan, resulting in acute water shortages and power outages. The RSF has denied any involvement in the attack, but the military has accused it of being responsible.
The bombings have exacerbated tensions that already existed between the UAE and Sudan. The Gulf state was accused by the Sudanese government of aiding the RSF and connecting it to the attacks in Port Sudan. The UAE once more categorically disputed the charges, referring to them as “unfounded allegations,” while Sudan reaffirmed them on Tuesday.
The civil war has killed thousands of people, displaced millions more, and sparked what humanitarian organizations have dubbed the biggest humanitarian disaster in history since it began almost three years ago. International attention is focused on the RSF and the Sudanese army, both of which are accused of war crimes, which they both refute.
