Mark Carney, the prime minister of Canada, says again that his country supports Ukraine in his first meeting with Zelenskiy

In Rome, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney met Zelenskiy for the first time and reiterated his strong support for Ukraine.

For the first time since he took office, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney met with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy face-to-face and vowed to support Ukraine no matter what. The gathering was held in Rome on Saturday, just before Pope Leo’s inauguration ceremony at the Vatican.

“Canadians will support you with unwavering and steadfastness.” We emphasize that without Ukraine’s complete cooperation and support, peace is impossible, and you have our undying support,” Carney said to Zelenskiy during their meeting.

Carney underlined Canada’s commitment to Ukraine in the face of the ongoing conflict with Russia during the meeting, which was a landmark diplomatic occasion.

Along with Zelenskiy, Prime Minister Carney met with important world leaders, including as Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Italian President Sergio Mattarella, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, in bilateral discussions. These talks take place in the run-up to the June G7 summit, which Canada will host.

US President Donald Trump has signaled a renewed diplomatic push from Washington by announcing plans to meet with Ukrainian and Russian leaders on Monday.

Carney’s remarks and actions in Rome highlight Canada’s ongoing commitment to standing strong behind its European partners and assisting Ukraine on the international scene.
