Trump announces a $14.5 billion deal with Etihad for 28 Boeing aircraft equipped with GE engines
Trump announced a $200 billion expansion of the US-UAE cooperation, including a $14.5 billion deal with the UAE for Boeing and GE.
The $14.5 billion Boeing and GE aerospace deal with Etihad Airways is one of more than $200 billion in US-UAE deals that US President Donald Trump has announced.
The procurement of 28 wide-body Boeing aircraft with GE engines has been confirmed by Etihad Airways. According to the airline based in Abu Dhabi, the agreement fits with its plan to update its fleet in order to satisfy changing operating requirements. It is anticipated that the new aircraft would go into service in 2028.
The White House earlier declared that Etihad had committed to spending $14.5 billion to purchase 28 Boeing 787 and 777X aircraft with GE engines, thanks to an agreement reached between Boeing and GE. GE and Boeing have not responded to the arrangement.
The inclusion of the next-generation 777X aircraft enhances the long-standing commercial aviation collaboration between the United States and the United Arab Emirates, supporting American manufacturing and increasing exports, the White House said in a statement, underscoring the importance of the investment.
At the moment, Etihad Airways has about 100 aircraft in its fleet. As part of Abu Dhabi’s efforts to diversify its economy, CEO Antonoaldo Neves said last month that the airline intends to acquire 20 to 22 new aircraft this year, with the goal of increasing its fleet to over 170 aircraft by 2030.
As part of its growth plan, Etihad anticipates receiving six Airbus A350s, four Boeing 787s, and ten Airbus A321LRs, which started operations on Monday and are expected to go into service in August.
Under Neves’ direction, Etihad, which is controlled by Abu Dhabi’s $225 billion wealth fund ADQ, has continued to grow despite recent major restructuring.
Separately, Qatar Airways placed firm orders for 160 jetliners with the option to buy an additional 50, giving Boeing its largest wide-body aircraft sale to date on Wednesday. The $96 billion agreement was revealed while President Trump was in Qatar.
