Yamal Brace is the driving force behind the 28th LA Liga’s success

Barcelona won La Liga for the 28th time on Thursday, defeating local rivals Espanyol 2-0. They lead Real Madrid, who are now in second place, by an insurmountable seven points with two games left.

Real needed to win their next three games and hope the leads didn’t lose more than one point in a single game in order to maintain any mathematical hopes of winning the championship following Sunday’s 4-3 loss to Barcelona.

Five minutes into stoppage time, Yamal assisted Fermin Lopez in hitting a ball from within the box to seal the victory. However, their slim hopes of winning the title were dashed in the 53rd minute when Lamine Yamal curled an incredible goal into the net.

Atletico Madrid is now in third place with 70 points, while Hansi Flick’s Barcelona has 85 points, seven more than Real Madrid, the previous season’s winners.

With the team winning both La Liga and the Copa del Rey, it caps off coach Hansi Flick’s amazing debut season at Barcelona.

At a special ceremony in the city on Friday, the Catalan team declared that they would be receiving the league trophy. Barca was seconds away from celebrating the title without ever stepping onto the field before Real Madrid’s thrilling victory over Mallorca on Wednesday.

Barca handled the situation themselves with a decisive victory over Espanyol, despite the fact that the game was postponed for a few minutes because some fans were injured after being hit by a car outside the stadium.

The home team appeared to have been in control of the first half as Barca’s goalkeeper, Wojciech Szczesny, made a spectacular reflex save to stop a close-range attempt by Javi Puado during one of many dangerous Espanyol counterattacks.

Just when it seemed like Barcelona had ran out of strategies to beat their opponents, teenage sensation Lamine Yamal worked his magic and scored a magnificent goal with what is now his signature move.

The 17-year-old collected the ball on the right touchline and made an amazing lateral run parallel to the edge of the box before curling the shot between two men and into the top corner.
