Man United could lose Yoro, which would be a huge blow
Leny Yoro’s injury added to Manchester United’s 2-0 Premier League loss to West Ham United at Old Trafford, giving manager Ruben Amorim a worry ahead of their Europa League final matchup with Tottenham Hotspur in ten days.
Ahead of Sunday’s Europa League final in Bilbao, Spain, Amorim had expressed his concern about injuries. The winner would go to the Champions League the following season. Yoro was devastated as he hobbled off in the 52nd minute, hiding his face with his jersey.
Amorim’s head was seen hanging in dismay on the TV camera.
“We need to evaluate Leny more accurately on Monday,” Amorim told reporters following the match. “He felt something but I think it could be a small thing.”
After suffering an ankle injury during United’s preseason tour in the United States, the 19-year-old Frenchman missed the first four months of the season. However, he has been reliable since returning.
He assisted up Mason Mount’s equalizer in the second leg of the semi-final matchup against Athletic Club and scored in the Europa League quarterfinal matchup against Lyon.
“He had that problem at the beginning of the season,” Amorim stated. “Hopefully, it won’t be too serious. Perhaps it’s not a huge deal, but I don’t want to give away too much.”
Matthijs de Ligt, Diogo Dalot, and Ayden Heaven are still out for Amorim’s club, which previously lost Joshua Zirkzee and Lisandro Martinez for the rest of the season.
As their worst-ever Premier League season continues, Man United suffered their 17th loss and ninth at home on Sunday as struggling West Ham defeated them for the first time in eighteen years thanks to goals from Tomas Soucek and Jarrod Bowen.
“If you look at the goals that we suffer we can avoid these goals,” Amorim stated. “The absence of vigor and urgency. That is the club’s most hazardous item. At the start of the game, you can sense it. There is a lack of urgency between our box and the opponent’s box. We need to make that change in this club.
“That is my responsibility. We are so close to the objectives that it is frustrating. There is so little urgency on our part to safeguard our objective. Week by week, that is.
“For me it doesn’t matter if we win the Europa League because the problems are much bigger than that.”
