Rodney Hinton Jr., a father from Cincinnati, may be executed for allegedly killing a deputy after his son was shot by police

A distraught father might be executed if he is charged with the murder of a deputy after another police shot and killed his son.

Rodney Hinton Jr., 38, was charged on Thursday with two counts of aggravated murder, one act of murder, and two counts of felonious assault, according to Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich. Pillich affirmed that there is a “potential death penalty” associated with the charges.

According to the authorities, Hinton killed Deputy Henderson on graduation day by purposefully striking him while he was directing traffic close to the University of Cincinnati.

Pillich told WCPO 9, “I can only tell you that I’ve never seen someone hunted down and killed like this.”

Hinton and his family saw police body camera footage earlier that day that showed Cincinnati police shooting and killing his 22-year-old son, Ryan Hinton. Ryan was accused of armed escape from a stolen vehicle.

Pillich gave a thorough chronology of events in a different statement: When Hinton got to the police station at 9:33 a.m., he became agitated and departed by 9:51 a.m., came back for his car at 12:41 p.m., and was spotted heading toward the UC campus at 12:50 p.m.

“Stopped and waited for traffic to clear before crossing multiple lanes of traffic at a high rate of speed, targeting the deputy,” according to the prosecution. After being struck, Henderson passed away in the hospital.

Without bond, Hinton is being detained. The shooting of Ryan is still being investigated. The platform has shut down a number of GoFundMe projects that were trying to assist Hinton with his legal bills.
