Shakira says that “Hips Don’t Lie” was a last-minute addition to her album

Shakira’s ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ was nearly excluded from her album.

The 48-year-old singer had finished her 2005 album ‘Oral Fixation, Vol. 2’ but then entered the studio with Wyclef Jean and immediately recognized they had a hit. She contacted her record company boss and urged him to withdraw the LP so that the additional track could be included.

During her appearance on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she shared: “I remember my album was already distributed, and then this idea came up, and Wyclef and I met and we started working on this track.”

“I began collaborating with Wyclef, and I was confident I had a hit on my hands, so I reached out to Donny Lenner, who was overseeing [Epic Records] at that time, and I said, ‘Donny, you need to retrieve the albums from the stores,’ and he responded, ‘No way, those albums are already out there.’

“I’m saying, ‘You have to trust me. You need to have faith in me. If you accomplish that, we’ll have a success. He replied, ‘Alright, I will hear you out. “I’ll listen to you on this one,” he said, and he followed through. We had to repackage the albums, and it altered my narrative.”

The partnership with Wyclef emerged shortly after Shakira experienced a rather eerie dream about him.

She remarked, “You know, the most amusing thing is that I had a dream, a completely random dream about Wyclef.” It was not a dream of a sexual nature! It was merely a dream. Then I woke up to a call from my manager, who said, ‘Wyclef wants to work with you.’

Shakira takes pride in having sold out 11 shows in Mexico City and holding the title of the number one tour in the world for the second consecutive month, believing it to be a unique experience for her fans.
