Seven fatalities reported following intense rainfall in Mogadishu on Friday

A flood caused by heavy rains surged over the east African country on Friday night, killing at least seven people in two areas of Mogadishu, a government official said.

“We now know that two women are among the minimum of seven fatalities. Additionally, nine houses were destroyed by the rain, and 200 families’ homes were filled,” said Saleh Hassan, a spokesman for the Mogadishu mayor.

Hassan claims that the capital of Somalia suffered damage to six key roads and other infrastructure, making it difficult for people to get around the city.

A small kid was one of the deceased, and his body was found among the wreckage on one of the affected streets on Saturday.

“I hoped the water would spit him out, but it didn’t work. We were able to remove his body this morning when my buddies joined me with hammers and spades,” Nuradin Mohammed, a local, told Reuters on Saturday.
