Trump Names Jeanine Pirro, a Fox News Host, the D.C. Interim U.S. Attorney
Pirro’s notorious public appearances and TV image raise questions about her new federal post.
Donald Trump has appointed Fox News host Jeanine Pirro, who is well-known for her MAGA commentary, as the District of Columbia’s acting U.S. attorney. In addition to her media persona, the revelation immediately caused controversy because of her past public blunders.
Pirro has an extensive background in both broadcasting and law. She was the first elected woman to hold the office of District Attorney and Assistant District Attorney in Westchester County, New York. Throughout her legal career, she helped create one of the nation’s first domestic violence bureaus and received recognition for her advocacy in cases involving domestic abuse.
Outside of the courtroom, Pirro co-hosts The Five and hosted Justice with Judge Jeanine on Fox News for ten years. She became a mainstay on conservative television because of her loud voice and devoted support for Donald Trump.
A number of issues have surrounded Pirro’s media career. Her remarks were widely denounced as Islamophobic, and she was temporarily removed from Fox News in 2019. Her slurred or erratic speech during live portions has also gone viral, leading to online concern about her sobriety. However, she has never publicly discussed those instances in depth.
Her recent selection to one of the most prominent legal posts in the country—particularly in a politically charged city like Washington, D.C.—represents yet another lackluster move by the Trump administration in his second term.
Pirro is “a class by herself,” according to Trump, who hailed her as one of the most successful district attorneys in New York history.
