Zamalek and Peseiro part ways shortly after three months
The Egyptian football team said on Wednesday that Zamalek has mutually agreed to end Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro’s contract due to his poor performance.
Less than three months have passed since Peseiro took over.
“Zamalek and coach Jose Peseiro have agreed to mutually terminate the contract,” the club posted on Facebook. “We hope your future endeavors are filled with success.”
Following a dismal league run that saw them fall to third place, seven points behind leaders Pyramids, the reigning champions, Zamalek, were eliminated from both the Egyptian League Cup and the CAF Confederation Cup under Peseiro.
Former Porto and Sporting Lisbon coach Peseiro, 65, became the fifth coach to head both Egyptian rivals, Zamalek and Al-Ahly, when he joined Zamalek on February 14.
In addition, Peseiro has coached the Saudi club Al-Hilal, the United Arab Emirates’ Al Wahda and Sharjah, and the national teams of Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, and Nigeria.
