Zambia is still undefeated as Sierra Leone suffers their first setback

Zambia increased their prospects of making it to the knockout stages at Egypt’s cost, while South Africa ended Sierra Leone’s undefeated start in the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.

With a thrilling 1-0 victory over Tanzania on Thursday night at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia, Zambia is still unbeaten in the competition.

Junior Chipolopolo’s participation in Egypt appeared to be in jeopardy until they were awarded a penalties deep into stoppage time, which Joseph Banda converted in the 101st minute.

With one game remaining for both sides, Chisi Mbewe’s team overtook the host nation and moved up to third position in Group A with five points.

South Africa upset leaders Sierra Leone 4-1 in the late kickoff at the same location, putting them in a solid position to advance to the quarterfinals.

Before Momoh Kamara pulled one back for the Shooting Stars nine minutes later, Jody Ah Shene gave Amajita the lead after just thirteen minutes, and Neo Rapoo increased their lead on the hour mark.

But in the final moments, Raymond Mdaka’s team won for the second time in a row thanks to a swift brace from Thabang Mahlangu (86′, 89′), bringing them within one point of the West Africans, who have already played four games.
