Trent-Arnold will depart Liverpool when the season ends
Liverpool vice captain Trent Alexander-Arnold has said he will leave the team at the end of the current season, ending an emotional 20-year association with his boyhood team.
In a statement issued Monday via X, Alexander-Arnold said the decision was the most difficult he has ever faced.
After 20 years with Liverpool Football Club, it’s time for me to formally announce that I will be leaving at the end of the current season,” he added.
“I believe that this is the most difficult decision I have ever had to make in my life.”
The 26-year-old said that he has kept quiet thus far in order to focus on the team’s pursuit of a historic 20th league championship.
He became a vital member of Liverpool’s first team after rising through the ranks.
“I understand that many of you have been perplexed or annoyed that I haven’t addressed this yet, but it was always my goal to maintain my entire attention on the team’s best interests, which was obtaining No. 20,” he clarified.
Alexander-Arnold honored the team and its supporters while reflecting on his time at Anfield.
For twenty years, this club has been my entire existence and universe.
“The affection and support I have received from everyone inside and without the club, starting with the Academy, will always be a part of me.
“I will always be grateful to all of you,” he declared.
He explained that his leaving was a move toward both professional and personal development.
“I have never known anything else, and this decision is about pushing myself both personally and professionally, taking on a new challenge, and stepping outside of my comfort zone.”
The defender, who is renowned for his passing and vision, claimed to have always given it his best while wearing the Liverpool colors.
He remarked, “I hope you feel like I’ve given back to you during my time here. I’ve given my all every single day I’ve been at this club.”
He expressed his gratitude at the end.
“I want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone over the past 20 years, including my coaches, managers, teammates, staff, and our amazing supporters. I will never, ever take for granted the unique experiences I’ve had with each and every one of you, and I’ve been fortunate enough to live out my dreams here. My affection for this club will always be there.
Victories in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and Club World Cup are among the accomplishments Alexander-Arnold leaves behind.
