President Tinubu extends his congratulations to Mark Carney on his election as Canada’s 24th Prime Minister, following the recent electoral success of the Liberal Party.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has offered heartfelt congratulations to Mark Joseph Carney on his election as Canada’s 24th Prime Minister after the Liberal Party’s success in the recent parliamentary elections.

In a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu recognized the importance of Carney’s electoral victory, characterizing it as a hard-won success at a crucial juncture in Canada’s history.

“President Tinubu extends his congratulations to Mr. Mark Joseph Carney on the Liberal Party’s victory and his ascension to the role of Prime Minister, emphasizing the significance of effective leadership during these challenging times,” the statement read.

Carney, a distinguished economist, held the position of Governor of the Bank of Canada from 2008 to 2013 and subsequently served as Governor of the Bank of England from 2013 to 2020.

President Tinubu conveyed assurance that Carney’s vast experience in banking and governance would play a crucial role in steering Canada through its present economic and political challenges.

“The President expresses optimism that Carney’s expertise in banking and governance will steer the nation during this pivotal time in its history,” the Statement read.

President Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s dedication to enhancing relations with Canada, highlighting the significance of fostering collaboration in sectors like education, climate change, and migration. He expressed that his administration anticipates establishing a vibrant and progressive partnership with the new Canadian government.

The President acknowledged the goodwill fostered during former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s tenure and expressed hope that the relationship between Nigeria and Canada would flourish under Carney’s leadership.
