Ole Willy, a Kenyan musician, talks about using his talent to better Africa
Ole Willy, whose real name is Wilfred Andabwa, is a musician and philanthropist who has discovered a more profound purpose outside of the spotlight. Ole Willy has been on a mission throughout Rwanda and Goma, Congo, sharing the gospel, mentoring the next generation, and helping underserved areas because of his faith and desire to empower Africa’s youth.
Ole Willy, who is most recognized for his music, now views his art as a means of bringing about change. Through this journey, I’ve changed my focus from providing entertainment alone to using my talents to help humanitarian causes and connect with young people who are looking for hope and love, two things that only Christ can fully provide. With a project in progress that will include 200 songs by 10 artists by 2026, he is bringing together young people from all over the continent to create a movement of African sound art used in evangelism.
Serving in Rwanda and Goma, Congo, has been nothing short of transformative for the musician from Eldoret. “I’ve learned humility and the value of selfless service from seeing the resiliency and hope in these communities,” he muses. “Since the harvest is abundant but the workers are few, I feel spiritually rejuvenated and motivated to continue sharing God’s message and educating many to be soul winners.”
The foundation of Ole Willy’s mission is his divine calling. He claims, “I was called and commanded by the Lord.” “Africa offered a chance to instill hope via mentorship, humanitarian efforts, and spiritual guidance.” His interest is using creativity, spirituality, and leadership to inspire young people.
It hasn’t been easy to work in war areas like eastern Congo. “Offering food, shelter, and medical assistance while managing scarce resources has put our strength to the test,” he says. However, God has remained dependable. We are relying on Him for additional support, so what we have done is but a drop in the ocean.
Ole Willy intends to continue fusing music, service, and faith in Eswatini, Mozambique, South Africa, Ethiopia, and Zimbabwe, where additional mission bases have already been created. He claims that this is a calling that lasts a lifetime.
He expresses his gratitude to his fans in Kenya and Africa, saying, “Your support keeps me going. Let’s seek God’s guidance, live with purpose, and support one another. God shows us where to go, not the other way around.
