George Santos was found guilty of fraud and sentenced to more than seven years in prison. He was also ordered to pay $373K in restitution

George Santos, a disgraced former congressman, was sentenced to seven years and three months in federal prison and ordered to pay more than $373,000 in reparations for a complex fraud scheme.

On Friday, a court in New York imposed the punishment, agreeing with prosecutors who characterized Santos as a “pathological liar” who manufactured his life story, took advantage of benefactors, and lacked regret. They cited Pants on Fire with George Santos, his post-scandal podcast, as evidence of his ongoing dishonesty.

Last year, Santos entered a guilty plea to two felony charges and acknowledged using campaign cash for personal needs. Prosecutors say he hasn’t paid a dollar despite pledging reparation.

Santos has hinted that he would ask Donald Trump for a pardon. Since his 2023 expulsion from Congress, he has made money off of his fame through media partnerships and cameos.

A court order still requires him to pay back his victims and forfeit $200,000.
