Davido Talks Excitingly About Hushpuppi’s Imminent Prison Release

Hushpuppi was found guilty of participating in a significant global money laundering and fraud scheme.

Multi-award-winning Nigerian musician Davido has enthusiastically announced the impending release of Ramon Abbas, best known online as Hushpuppi, a longtime collaborator.

“He will return home shortly.”

With just one casual remark, the father of seven shocked social media when he disclosed this during a recent interview on a global podcast.

Davido went on to show compassion for the self-styled luxury influencer and real estate developer’s predicament, emphasizing that he thinks he will be freed shortly.

Indeed. Hushpuppi. The same Nigerian socialite who was convicted of international fraud and later became an internet enigma. The same man who, ahead of the FBI crashing the party and extradited him to the U.S. in 2020 on allegations of cyber fraud, flaunted luxury aircraft and Gucci bags like party treats.

With a cybercrime charge sheet longer than an Afrobeat remix, Hushpuppi was given a sentence of more than 11 years in federal prison in 2022.
Let’s go back, though.

The singer clarified that he never truly knew what Hush was up to behind the scenes, but added, “He’s my friend.” “I saw him about once. He had a happy life and would soon return home.

It’s interesting to note that no early release is documented in the public domain. No court documents. No announcements of clemency. Davido just said what he said. Even if they don’t understand what Davido is saying, supporters still pay attention when he speaks.

In a single sentence, the Afrobeats artist will become philosophical about street life, deliver a bombshell, and crack a joke. And in a recent interview, he did just that.

“I’m praying for him,” Davido said. He added that although he and his friend used to hang out frequently and had a wonderful friendship, he was not aware that his friend was engaging in any criminal activity or money laundering. “He lived a good life, but I never really knew what he was doing; I just used to see him around.”

Only Twitter can generate the kind of internet conversation that was created by that final section. The timeline did what it does best: analyze, discuss, and break down the morality of a famous person showing sympathy for a condemned criminal.

However, you must comprehend Davido’s perspective in order to appreciate the gravity of this event.

The artist, who is well-known for songs like “If” and “Unavailable,” did not exalt the atrocities. He recognized the desperation that many Nigerians experience. You would experience some sort of adversity in Nigeria and think, ‘You know what? After two years of balling, I’ll be OK.

Davido: I’m still a hos baby, and my dad still sends me money.

Timelines have been illuminated by those few statements with equal parts mystery and bewilderment. Was Davido implying a clandestine legal arrangement? Is Hushpuppi actually leaving early? Or was this really a verbal error?

Many were left wondering if Hushpuppi was truly leaving early after hearing his remarks. In particular, Davido did not specify when Hushpuppi will be available for publication. U.S. authorities have not yet released any public statements about a reduced sentence, parole, or a legal update that would indicate he is leaving early. Publicly, the 11-year sentence is still in effect.

Davido further clarified that although he and Hushpuppi shared many spaces and were in similar circles, they were not business partners or involved in any transactions. “When it came to working together, we were never that close. However, we would be in the same social circles. I knew him, and you can feel it when someone you know is imprisoned.

And to be honest, that makes sense. Hushpuppi was all over fashion week, five-star meals, and the front row of the wealthy and (not-so-innocent) for a while.

It’s still unclear if Davido’s well-crafted attempt to humanize his friend or generate discussion about him is what led to his release.
